Emma Watson has recently spoken about her “stand” following the huge backlash on social media.

Emma Watson is one of Hollywood’s “most outspoken” celebrities, particularly in fighting for women’s rights. Despite her apparent value toward privacy, she has repeatedly utilized her platforms to speak out on several important issues.

Many individuals love her for her initiatives and “activism,” according to Cheat Sheet. She has also reportedly received tons of praise and “recognition” for this

However, it became a shocking note to the rest of the public when news emerged, revealing that netizens have rallied on social media against her. As it happened, several people slammed her on Blackout Tuesday following her post on Instagram.

Several people, including celebrities, took time to posy “single black square” photos on social media. This became the so-called “Blackout Tuesday” in hopes of muting contents other than “Black voices.”

Taking her post to Instagram, Emma Watson reportedly posted three black squares, each with hashtags “Blackout Tuesday,” “The Show Must Be Paused,” “Amplify Melanated Voices,” and “Amplify Black Voices.”

“Disappointed” netizens slammed her on Twitter

Following her post on Instagram, several netizens reportedly voiced out their disappointments on social media, especially on Twitter. They blasted Emma Watson for incorporating “aesthetics” on her Instagram posts, as per reports.

The Harry Potter actress reportedly posted her black squares with “white borders” to match the overall aesthetics of her Instagram feed. This move stirred fans’ emotions, which reportedly led many to speak against the actress.

Aside from the issue surrounding the white borders, other reports said that netizens also “accused” Emma Watson of not speaking out to address George Floyd’s death. This is despite the fact that she shared articles and posts on Twitter about the matter, as per Today.

Emma breaks silence but, not to address critics

After the whole debacle on Twitter, Emma Watson broke her silence and shared a brief post on Instagram. She said, “there is so much racism, both in our past and present, that is not acknowledged nor accounted for.”

Emma then continued to assert that she is “still learning about the many ways” that she does “unconsciously” that supports and upholds a “system that is structurally racist.”

At the end of the post, she said that she sees the “anger, sadness, and pain” of the people. “I cannot know what this feels like for you, but it doesn’t mean I won’t try to,” she concluded.

While several reports seemingly described the post as a response to the backlash that she received on the day before, Emma Watson cleared out that this is not “an apology or a reactionary statement.” This was drafted last week, the actress said.
